Over the last 50 years, Direct Table Foods - based in Bury St Edmunds - has successfully grown to become one of the most prominent bacon, gammon and sausage processors in the UK.


We are looking for a new Engineering Supervisor to join our Engineering Team. This role will be hands on and oversee daily supervision of 3 maintenance engineers on our days shift. Providing a maintenance service to the business and buildings, plant and associated equipment that ensures 100% availability and reliability, that results in the safe and efficient production of products.

Duties will include:

  • Supervisory control of maintenance engineers

  • Liaise with the Engineers in relation to departmental requirements

  • Take responsibility for the Engineering Manager and other Engineering shift leaders in their absence.

  • Conduct a range of engineering activities including (but not limited to) fault diagnostics, breakdown cover, equipment instillation and the general maintenance of all plant and equipment to ensure optimum efficiency

  • Support the Engineering Manager with the commissioning of new machinery

  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation following repair

  • Contribute to focused improvement meetings (FIM) as and when required

  • Maintenance of building fabrication and services

  • Conduct scheduled planned preventative maintenance (PPM)

  • Work with contractors to ensure specialist machinery is maintained

  • Ensure the clean as you go policy is maintained

  • Conduct toolbox audits

  • Fully cooperate with site management and the workforce

  • Report any Health and Safety hazards within the area

  • Take a consistent and fair approach when implementing company policies and procedures.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering related qualification or relevant experience in an engineering role ideally within food manufacturing

  • Strong technical knowledge and aptitude for both mechanical and electrical engineering

  • Competent in working with PLC systems and fault finding on electrical circuits. Ideally 18th Edition qualified

  • Sound fault finding ability and a working knowledge of pneumatics and electronics

  • Ability to use initiative

  • Flexibility

  • Good written and oral communication

  • Excellent leadership and management skills.
